Heap Reunion at Green's Peak

Heap Reunion 2009

We once again had another great year at the Heap Reunion. We look forward to this week long camping trip each year. The boys love their freedom to run, play, and get dirty and John and I love to relax and watch the kids have a good time.

Traci, Liz, and I put together a few crafts for the kids to do during the week. Traci helped them make cereal necklaces, which were a big hit for all the kids. Liz and I brought stuff to paper mache pinatas. It was a messy project, but we had fun doing it and the kids loved the pinatas. They didn't even care that we never took the time to decorate it! All that mattered was all the candy that came raining down when the pinata split open. Kyson split the small pinata and was so proud. Trey took some great swings at the bigger pinata, and Ridge was just happy with the first piece of candy he picked up.

Another huge hit of the week was playing baseball. The boys played ball all week and got a lot of practice sliding and getting very dirty. Trey and Kyson took turns hitting and pitching, but Ridge was always the dedicated catcher. He took his job pretty seriously, except when he would take an occasional break to play in the dirt. He would run after the ball and throw it with all his might. He felt pretty important!

We learned a new game for the reunion this year called Garbage. It's an easy game and perfect for the kids. They enjoyed playing with the adults as well as had some pretty intense games of their own. They loved Grandpa Heap's addition to the game that required yelling WILD! when they got a king and GARBAGE! when they didn't get a card they could use. The vocal additions made for some loud, fun times.

No Heap reunion would be complete without a fishing trip to Greer. Grandpa Heap took Trey and Kyson fishing with strict instructions from their mother to stay out of the water. I should of known that I was wasting my breath because they came back with wet, rolled up pants, no shoes, no sock, but most importantly they had a line full of fish. Kyson was too grouchy and tired to pose for a picture so Trey did the honors.

Ridge didn't get to go fishing, but he got over it soon enough when he found yet another pile of dirt to play in. The boys found a perfect play spot that suited every one's interests. There was a tree for climbing, a hammock for swinging, and dirt, dirt, dirt. They spent a lot of time in this little area and had a good time with their cousins.

John's brother Jason let us borrow his dirt bikes for the week and boy were they a hit. The kids loved riding and Trey especially loved getting to ride all by himself. He became quite the little pro and is now sure that he really needs a dirt bike of his own. John was so good to spend so much time with them riding. Unfortunately with all the riding that went on I never got a pic of them in action. I guess these pics will have to suffice.

It was a great week, we had a great time, and are already looking forward to next year!
