Too Many Papers

Trey comes home from school each day with lots of papers. Announcements, coloring pages, workbook pages, crafts, notes, paper books, etc. etc. etc. Trey thinks that each paper is very important and that none of them should be thrown away. I beg to differ.

Last night we went to look at Christmas lights and when we got in the car Trey asked about a paper that he thought I had thrown away. I explained that I had not thrown it away, but that I was going to because it was not important and we didn't need to keep it. (It was a flyer annoucing pizza night at Barro's pizza.) He assured me that every thing he brings home is important and should never be thrown away. I explained that we can't keep every paper because there are just too many and our house is not big enough to hold all his papers. This ended the conversation and we went on our way to look at Christmas lights.

About 15 minutes into looking at lights we came to an area with a lot of big houses. We were slowly passing each house admiring the decorations when from the back seat we heard Trey mumble disgruntingly under his breath, "I bet that house is big enough to hold all my papers!"

John and I cracked up laughing. I couldn't believe that after all that time he was still thinking about all his darn papers!

Okay, I love that post. And I agree they have tons of papers. I do throw them away everyday after school. But I have to be kind of sneaky when I do it. There were times I put them in the trash sitting on the top and when he went to throw something away, he'd see it. Then he'd ask me why I threw it away. So now I have to make sure I cover it when I trash it. I do keep a few things, but we can't keep it all.

I had to laugh out loud about this one! My oldest son saved EVERYTHING!. I had to get rid of stuff when he was gone because he would retrieve it from the trash! I saved the important stuff and the stuff that melted my heart.

I too laughed out loud! I think every house in America has this problem (at least those with kids in school.) Where does the school come up with so many things to write about! I can't keep them all. So this is what I do: I save them, each one, every blasted thing, until the end of the month. Then I sit the kids down at the table and say "Here you decide what we keep." They have a ball going through all their papers. They make a pile of what to keep and what to throw away. Then together we go through the keep pile and decide what needs to be thrown away. (Ultimately it is I who decides what we keep, but they feel like they did the deciding. It's much easier to do it this way.) It's actually a fun process. They get to "reminisce" about the old things and I get to chuck out the darn things!

Like you said, our house isn't big enough to hold all of them!

I LOVED THIS POST. SO cute and dang funny! I love Trey, he's such a cutie!

I love it! Kids say the funniest things. You could always take pictures of some of his important papers and then he can have it on the computer.
