Overnight Camp Out

On Friday we took the boys on a camp out to Saguaro Lake. It was a lot of fun to go out with them and just let them have a good time. We climbed hills, cooked hot dogs and smores, slept in our little tent, sang songs, played in the water, relaxed, and laughed a lot.

The boys helped John navigate our way out there with this aerial map of the coves. (How he could make anything out from this is beyond me! But I guess that's what guys do!)

John kept stopping to the look at his map and so the boys each wanted their turn to study the map. Between the two of them, Trey and Kyson came up with a route that went like this, "You need to go one wiggle, three wobbles, and two straights, Dad!" We heard these backseat directions quite often and assured them we were following them exactly.

We had all sorts of interesting visitors throughout the night as people came out to climb hills and act stupid. But our most interesting visitor was the skunk who lurked around our camp, and more interestingly, around our tent. We first caught sight of him while sitting around the fire. He was scoping things out from a distance. Then after we had all gone to bed, John got up to get Ridge's sippie cup from the truck and found Mr. Skunk hanging out at the fire. Early Saturday morning we awoke to scuffling around the outside of our tent...Mr. Skunk was back. We tried to keep the boys quiet so we didn't upset him, and even though Trey doesn't have a quiet bone in him, Mr. Skunk thankfully left us smelling only like smoke from the campfire.

What a cheesy smile! Ridge loves to cheese it up for the camera!

Once it got dark Ridge was ready to snuggle in and go to sleep. He loves it when John holds him and will lay so nice and still with him, but not with me.

Trey was a little nervous in this picture (as you can probably see from his expression) because I had him take this picture shortly after we discovered Mr. Skunk lurking around. Trey didn't want to turn his back on him, but I finally made him for a short second so I could get his picture by the fire.

Kyson, on the other hand, had no fear of Mr. Skunk and wanted to be sure that his stick was in the picture too. Come to find out later, Kyson was so busy playing with his stick and the fire, that he didn't even know that there was a skunk or realize that we had been talking about it all evening.

We all had a good time and will hopefully get to go on another camp out before the nights get too cold...wait we live in Mesa, the nights will probably never be too cold!
